Southern Virginia University - Campus Visit

On Thursday Noell, Kaneesha, and I left Salt Lake for Buena Vista, Virginia so we could visit the university she is considering attending.. We flew from Salt Lake to Dallas, Texas and from Dallas to Richmond Virginia.

On Friday we drove to Washington DC and went to the Lincoln Memorial, several parts of the Smithsonian, the Holocaust Museum, an art museum, and the US Capital building. Aside from driving through a major city with significant traffic, I especially enjoyed the time we spent in the area. We drove to Staunton, Virginia to our hotel for the night. It was definitely a long day, but it was great.

Saturday we ate a pretty pathetic breakfast at the hotel consisting of juice, toast, butter, raisin bran, and milk (none of us like raisin bran, and all of us would have enjoyed jam on the toast). After breakfast we went to SVU campus and went through an orientation. We met students, teachers, soccer coach, and even the university president. At one point, Kaneesha had the opportunity to go to a couple of "classes" and Noell and I sat through a parent orientation. During the parent orientation both Noell and I felt very comfortable about Kaneesha attending SVU. We'll see what she decides.

We toured campus, the town, and even watched a men's lacrosse game. After that, Kaneesha spent the evening with a couple soccer players around campus.

Sunday we ate another pathetic breakfast at the same hotel (except the toaster had broken, so instead of toast, we had bread). We then went to a branch in Staunton for Sacrament meeting. While I would have enjoyed attending Sunday School and Priesthood meetings in the branch, we needed to get on our way. We then drove to Virginia Beach. The weather was not good, and after seeing the beach, we returned to Hampton for our hotel. It snowed for several hours during the night, and we enjoyed relaxing in the hotel room.

This morning we enjoyed a great hotel breakfast, then drove to Richmond. Luckily the snow had mostly melted, and the roads were only wet. After arriving at the airport and dropping off the rental car, we checked through security. At this point, we are waiting for the flight. To make it even more exciting, the flight is currently delayed by nearly two hours. Hopefully it won't be delayed further, so we can make our connecting flight in Dallas.
