Private Tour

Image
This week, Tim and Heather brought their family to stay the night as they traveled to St. George, Utah for their family Christmas celebration. While they were here, Tim discussed his work and mentioned that some of it was recently placed in the Provo Town Center Temple. Noell then told him that she'd run into Geri, our cousin's wife, that day. Daniel is working as a security guard at the temple so Geri had the opportunity to go through the temple. The next thing we knew, Noell had contacted Daniel and he had setup for us to go through the temple about 45 minutes later. I had been at a campfire with the scouts, so I quickly showered and we jumped in the car and drove the 25 minutes. We then had the opportunity to go through the temple. The amazing part was that we weren't on a guided tour that limited the route we took, we were able to walk anywhere in the rooms and see anything up close. We admired Tim's work up close. We also walked up close to an...

Crazy Week-and-a-Half

Image
It's hard to believe how much has happened in the last few days. It has been crazy, but extra amazing. These are times that build families and that we would not want to forget. Tanner's face painted Tanner, Spencer Lyle, and Jaxxon Goddard with Arrow of Light awards On July 22, we had the opportunity to see Tanner awarded the highest award available to Cub Scouts, the Arrow of Light award. He earned the award several months ago, but because of changes in adult leadership he was unable to receive it earlier. They did an excellent job of awarding it to him. He received a cut out wooden arrow of light and special arrow--thanks to Noell. He had hoped to receive the same awards the previous boys were given, but the new leaders weren't planning to make the awards, so Noell put them together for Tanner and two other boys who were given the award at the same time. 100... and So Much More!

Saturday was a special day. Tanner and I returned from scout camp early, so we could go to a celebration for Grandma Veibell's 100th Birthday.  Throughout my life, I have many memories of Grandma Veibell. The first I remember was our first trip to Grandpa and Grandma's home in Garland, Utah. I remember that my siblings were curious about what their new house would be like. I couldn't remember the old house, no matter how hard I tried, so I was also anxious to see their new home. Photo in Garland Home One of my dearest memories of Grandma was about one of her bowling trophies. For some time, the trophy was on the television, where a child my age could handle it and admire it's beauty. I remember the way it glistened in my hands. Some time later, it was moved to the top of the piano. Perhaps I was the reason the trophy was moved.  Beside Grandma's trophy, another of my favorite memories was her cube calendar. Made with four cubes (each a little more t...

Scout Camp - With Tanner

Image
Sunrise Hike - Bear Scrape on Tree For several years, I've been able to attend Girls Camp with Kaneesha and Myranda. It has always been one of the greatest experiences I've had. Last year I spent the entire week with Myranda. I hoped to attend again this year, but because of serving on Wood Badge staff and attending Scout Camp, I had insufficient vacation days from work to do all three and still spend time at other family events. This week, Tanner was old enough to attend scout camp. The decision was made that if a father would be at camp all week, 11 year-old scouts could attend. Tanner turned 11 the day before camp began.  Waiting to do the Polar Plunge We went to a scout camp called High Uintah Camp. The camp was held at Windy Park in the High Uintahs. Thirteen young men and three adults were there. Tanner earned 7 merit badges and everything he could toward several rank advancements. After the Plunge The Polar Plunge Participants Tanner particip...

"The House of The Lord is Completed"

Image
June 7, 2015, following the Hosanna Shout, everyone attending the three dedicatory sessions of the Payson Utah Temple sang, "The Spirit of God Like a Fire is Burning" and the choir joined us in singing the words, "The House of The Lord is Completed!" What an amazing experience to be part of such once in a lifetime experience. On October 8, 2011 I had the opportunity to sing in the groundbreaking choir for the Payson Utah temple. It was such an amazing opportunity to sing, as my wife and children were there (along with our new exchange student Selina Dembowy). After such an amazing experience, the only bad feeling was the knowing that it was over. The odds of being invited to participate with the dedication was nearly impossible. With 27 stakes in the temple district, I knew I would not be able to participate in much of anything, although my heart has been yearning for something with the dedication (most specifically singing). On March 7, 2015 I was invited ...

Memorial Day 2015

Image
Memorial Day is a day we remember those who have gone before. Typically we remember family members who have passed on and show gratitude for those who have served in the military. Today was a fun memorial day for me. While we didn't do many of the typical Memorial Day activities, we did some things that memories were made of when I was young. The activities we participated in reminded me of my father. I am so grateful that my father is alive.  Strawberries in a rain gutter... looks good, hope it works! Tanner and I got up at 6:00 this morning to set up flags with the scouts. We posted American flags throughout our ward. My father spent so many days and nights of his life serving the youth in the neighborhood through the Boy Scouts of America. Tanner and I then went shopping. We picked up some things we needed to work around the yard. We first replaced a problem sprinkler and then put in another sprinkler where one was needed.  After fixing things around th...
