A Week Behind

I began this last Sunday. Instead of trying to add to it and list what happened this week, I'd better make certain I post this. Here's what happened over a week ago...

For quite a while, we have had amazing amounts of rain. On one day it seemed like the rain kept circling from all directions. At different points of the rainstorm it seemed like the rain hit windows on all different sides of the home. The rain came hard, lasted long, and the wind blew.

Tanner's Crossbow
At the Payson Onion days Tanner saw a little wooden crossbow. He was excited about it and asked if we could spend $15 to buy one for him. I took a careful look at it and even had him take a photo of it. Instead of spending $15 on a little crossbow, we spent several nights and a lot of quality time making our own. It was fun to see it completed. The first bow we planned to attach to it broke as I attempted to bend it. I then studied a longbow that Noell's Grandpa gave me before he passed away (his friend made it for him). They went all over shooting arrows with their bows. I finally modeled our bow for the crossbow after Grandpa Goodrich's longbow. I then strung the bow and gave it a test shot. Wow, the arrows shot straight and fast! After a little adjustment we loosened the string the crossbow now shoots well and Tanner can even cock and load the crossbow by himself.

Myranda's coach considers her one of his most valuable players and plays her in nearly every position (Myranda's father considers her the most valuable player on her team).
Last week, as goalie, after making a beautiful save and punt down the field, she turned to return to her position and sprained her ankle. It was a pretty bad sprain and she had to use crutches some. We were very grateful that she healed quick enough this week that she only missed playing in one game. She is still playing cautiously, but now kicking more with her left foot. Yesterday morning I went with her to her soccer practice and she was kicking as good with her left foot as almost any on her team could kick with their right foot. While I am amazed at her talent, I'm especially impressed at her ability to play as a team member and her hard work (even when healing).

On Thursday morning I went to work, as normal. It was my turn to drive (Mark Hansen and I commute to the Lindon Cannery). At work I received a text from Fred that we could pick up the Dodge Stratus that he is selling to us. With a bit of communication, it was decided that I could ride with Daniel Nuckolls (my cousin) to my grandmother Veibell's home where my mother was. After a brief visit with Grandma, we visited a couple of my mother's aunts and uncles. All three visits were fun.
Tonight I decided to sit on the deck and write this update. After sitting out here for a while, I killed several mosquitos and feel I was bit by several others. The amazing amount of rain has caused an incredible increase in the number of mosquitos. It's difficult to walk across a yard without being bit.

I was just about to pack it up and return inside when Myranda came out to tell me about the Miss America pageant. Miss Florida injured her ACL while practicing her baton twirling routine. Myranda noticed the mosquitos and in a moment had lit two citronella candles for me, to keep the mosquitos away. Myranda is quick to help others.

Kaneesha has done an amazing job of keeping ahead of her schoolwork. The other day we were texting. At the time she was completing some assignments that were due in a couple days. When I asked about it, she explained that she had a soccer game coming and something else and she didn't want to get behind. She has excellent planning skills for a freshman.
