A WILD Weekend
Last Sunday, Dan Lyle informed me that, in January, he'd reserved a campsite for the scouts. He asked if I'd like to take the scouts camping to that campsite this weekend. I knew I had tickets to the play, which we had already rescheduled. After visiting with several leaders, we decided to go and invite the 11 year-old scouts to join us. We threw the plans together.
When Friday night arrived, Noell and I went to the the Hale Center Theater where we joined Ken, Ada, Kathy, and BrieAnna for the performance of She Loves Me. We had a great visit during dinner and loved the acting and enjoyed the humor in the show. We made it back home shortly after midnight.
On Saturday morning I woke early and couldn't go back to sleep. I decided that I'd wake Tanner and we'd go to the campout. Because he is a Webelos scout, he can attend some activities. We invited him and another Webelos to join us.
When we arrived, some of the scouts told me that they found a bear in a trap. I quickly went with them (to ensure the scouts were being safe). The leaders were back in camp. I found the majority of the scouts behind a taped off area that said not to enter. Sure enough, the scouts were gathered around the bear trap poking the bear with sticks. I quickly lead the scouts back to camp.
Later, we had the opportunity to watch the people from the Division of Wildlife Management bring the trap out. They let us take pictures and talk about it with them before they took the bear to a safer place in the deep wilderness.
We ended up having 16 scouts and 7 leaders at the campout. We spent time fishing, playing horse shoes, and bocci ball around camp. This was truly a campout the scouts will remember.
Tonight, Tanner and I took Blu for a hike up Santaquin Canyon. We had a great time stopping along the beautiful trail to take pictures. We only hiked a couple miles, but we had a great time together.
