Memorial Day 2015

Memorial Day is a day we remember those who have gone before. Typically we remember family members who have passed on and show gratitude for those who have served in the military.

Today was a fun memorial day for me. While we didn't do many of the typical Memorial Day activities, we did some things that memories were made of when I was young. The activities we participated in reminded me of my father. I am so grateful that my father is alive.

Strawberries in a rain gutter... looks good, hope it works!
Tanner and I got up at 6:00 this morning to set up flags with the scouts. We posted American flags throughout our ward. My father spent so many days and nights of his life serving the youth in the neighborhood through the Boy Scouts of America.

Tanner and I then went shopping. We picked up some things we needed to work around the yard. We first replaced a problem sprinkler and then put in another sprinkler where one was needed.

After fixing things around the yard, we decided to make the yard better. Some time ago, Kaneesha suggested that I change the way I grow our strawberries. She saw that strawberries were hung in a rain gutter at a level which makes it easy to weed and pick them. We spent the next few hours hanging a rain gutter and planting strawberries in it.

Enjoying a detour
Earlier this spring, the wind blew so hard it tore the tether holding our trampoline out of the ground and blew the trampoline over the trees and into the hollow. The trampoline mat has a hole in it that needs repaired. Because of this incident, we also spend time separating the mat from the pads and the side wall of our trampoline.
Returning to safe ground

After some time resting, we headed to the mountains. Noell had been looking for great places to visit in Utah County, and discovered a waterfall just 35 minutes away. We drove to the trailhead and hiked to the beautiful waterfall. We also hiked a good distance beyond the waterfall and enjoyed the beautiful mountain vistas.

After returning from the hills, we enjoyed hamburger grilled on our barbecue grill. I also helped the Scouts take down the flags.

For those who know the way my father celebrated holidays, they would easily recognize time with Scouts, work around the yard, and time in the mountains. Although I hoped to visit a cemetery, the family was not up for it. I sufficed by reading and remembering some of my relatives who have passed on (perhaps that came from my mom).
