Scout Camp - With Tanner

Sunrise Hike - Bear Scrape on Tree
For several years, I've been able to attend Girls Camp with Kaneesha and Myranda. It has always been one of the greatest experiences I've had. Last year I spent the entire week with Myranda. I hoped to attend again this year, but because of serving on Wood Badge staff and attending Scout Camp, I had insufficient vacation days from work to do all three and still spend time at other family events.

This week, Tanner was old enough to attend scout camp. The decision was made that if a father would be at camp all week, 11 year-old scouts could attend. Tanner turned 11 the day before camp began.

Waiting to do the Polar Plunge
We went to a scout camp called High Uintah Camp. The camp was held at Windy Park in the High Uintahs. Thirteen young men and three adults were there. Tanner earned 7 merit badges and everything he could toward several rank advancements.

Tanner participated in the Polar Dip, where he jumped into the very cold lake at 6 am. He was one of five scouts to do it (along with the three adults). He also left at 5:30 on another morning for a sunrise hike. During the week, he oversaw the cooking and cleaning of some meals that we ate. He provided excellent leadership skills as he oversaw the cooking/cleaning. Each night Tanner and I read scriptures and talked together about principles of the gospel.

While the week was fun, the part I liked best was spending time with Tanner. He has grown so much in the last few years.
