“Dad, Can I Borrow Your Phone?”
The Harrison family invited us over for water balloon volleyball and homemade ice cream on Friday night. After we ran out of water balloons, we sat in the shade of the back yard and visited with Michael, Karla, and some of their children, while others played around the yard. After we’d been talking for a while, Tanner asked if he could borrow my phone. My children have borrowed my phone for years, but Tanner has his own phone. It seemed strange that he would ask.
A couple short minutes later, Tanner handed my phone back to me. The phone was still on and he handed it back to me in a way that I noticed a beautiful sunset photo on the screen. He’d taken several different photos that turned out very nice. I excused myself and walked around to the front of the house to appreciate the gorgeous sunset.
I’m grateful for spectacular sunsets, for amazing technology, and for kind children who share wonderful things with me.
As we arrived at the Harrison’s my hands were full, so I got one of the twins out and set him down in the grass. It didn’t occur to me until Noell exclaimed, “Dawson’s standing on his own!” As I get the boys out of bed, or out of the high chairs, I often softly stand them next to something to touch and keep their balance. If I’m not near anything, I help them sit down gently.
Now, they are walking along anything, and I’ll often hold one hand and help them balance and take steps with little help from my hand. They’ve got a way to go, but they’ll soon be walking, well, actually probably running 😳😬.
At Cody and Mak’s wedding reception, they had some beautifully creative decorations. The ceiling centerpiece was made of skis. Clark informed me that they’re old skis he’s collected from yard sales. His children (and us as we’ve visited their family) have used the skis for years. Someone asked him about them and then explained that some of the skis in the arrangement are amazing collectors items and are worth over $500.

Personally, this has been a hard week. I’ve not been good about taking care of myself. I’ve gotten less sleep than normal. Sleep plays a significant impact on my attitude and how I treat others. I’m trying hard to take naps in attempt to compensate.
Spending time with others does help me in some ways. Today, our stake president texted to ask how our family’s doing. This week we had time with friends (the Harrisons). This afternoon Elder Driscoll (Area 70) called to visit and to seek an answer about Pathway before he speaks at a state-wide broadcast tonight. This week I also visited with Ken, Dean, and as they came to visit (at different times). I also had some short visits with other family members. I’m thankful that the Lord sends compensatory blessings when times are difficult.
