Caucus

For those of you who like photos as much as I do, I apologize for only writing tonight...

This year the 1st Presidency of the Church sent a letter to the wards in Utah to be read in sacrament meetings. In the letter they asked us to cancel church meetings on the nights of the political caucus meetings. We canceled our meetings and Noell and I attended tonight's Republican caucus meeting.

Neither of us had been to a caucus meeting prior. It was interesting as we observed the proceedings and voted on the candidates we felt would best represent our area. Most of the individuals were people that we knew. Some we didn't know. As the candidates shared their feelings, many impressed me as "humble servants and others seemed on an ego trip," (to quote Dan Lyle).

Throughout my married life, I have felt the desire to be more involved in local politics. It was nice to be involved. At some point, I hope to serve in city or county positions. When we lived in Ammon I had a friend on the planning and zoning for the city approach me and invite me to be on the committee. I was excited and was about to accept when he heard I was just beginning the classes for a master's degree in business administration. He then pulled me aside and said, "There will be other times for this, focus on your work, family, education, and school."

Tonight sparked that interest again, although with as many things that are happening in my life at this point, I will need to hold off a little longer. Next week marks three years that I have served as bishop. I've considered that in some small way being involved in the community and partially political. I will continue to improve myself and hopefully I can be an instrument in the Lord's hand to bring forth his glory and desires.
