Blanding Area, Private Tour

FOUR CORNERS
Wayne, Myranda, Andreas (Selina's dad), Selina, Lucie (Selina's sister)

This morning Myranda, Selina, her father, and sister went with me to Four Corners. Noell, Kaneesha, and Tanner stayed at the hotel to get more sleep. When we woke up it was raining. We drove through some very serious rain, and some pockets that didn't have rain. When we arrived at Four Corners, we took a few photos and were too cold to do much more. Myranda and I picked out some desert tortoise necklaces to give to Selina, Lucie, Sophie, and Myranda.

We then hurried back to meet Gary Guymon for a local tour of the places that few people know about. We first saw some dinosaur tracks in a riverbed.

We then hiked up a canyon to a cave dwelling that is about 1000 years old. Gary said it is the second most pristine (untouched site) of any known in Utah. He made certain that as we approached the trail that we spread out to prevent it from building a trail. As we got up to the dwellings, we were able to see some amazing cliff dwellings, that looked like they have remained untouched for a thousand years.

We hiked up the hill on the opposite of the canyon and got a great view and took a lot of photos. In the cliffs on the opposite side of the canyon we were able to see some grinding stones where they ground corn. We saw what appeared might be some large bins for storing seed. We were also able to climb into one of the cliffs that had a wall as if for a home in the cliff. Kaneesha even found a large piece of pottery that was about 2 inches square. She showed us all, then returned it to where she found it. It was amazing to be a part of the historical significance while attempting to leave things as they were when we arrived.

We then drove to some dwellings that had be excavated and re-built to show their original design.

We then drove to an old city that had only had part of it excavated. Gary showed us where the walls of the city were and where the the buildings would have been. As we were there we found tons of pieces of pottery. The pieces of potter were of many different colors and sizes. It was amazing to find so many different pieces. Every one of us found a number of pieces. We all found so many that I was amazed. We then said good bye to Gary and drove back to Moab.

On the way to Blanding it was dark from Moab. On the return trip we were able to see many neat things that we missed in the dark. We enjoyed a rock "loaf" in the middle of an open field (the stone formation was huge). We also climbed up to Wilson Arch and took photos. It was also amazing.
Kaneesha, glad to have
cell phone reception

We enjoyed dinner at Pizza Hut. Tanner swam in the pool at the hotel and Myranda waded in it (in her pants...up to her waist). The rest of us were too cold to enjoy the swimming.
