Expensive Family Treasure

This week, Mom sent me information about an exhibit happening in Provo. When I read about it, I knew I had to see it. I was so excited, that on the day before, I almost took my boss to see it (luckily he couldn't go, because it was the wrong day). On Friday, between meetings, I went. The private collector, Reid Moon, has amassed many Bibles, Books of Mormon, and other special collections. When I arrived, I learned that I was early, and they had not finished the setup.

Reid volunteered to take me on a quick tour before he took the more expensive books from the vault. It  was awesome to see an original printing of the six book set of Les Miserables. He then showed me copies of Bibles and other rare books. As he came to a case with a pilgrim hat and musket, he said, this is where William Bradford's Bible will go. I let him know that I'm a descendant of William Bradford and he continued to show me other books, like Hellen Keller's Bible. After we finished, he asked me to help him bring some of the books out of the vault.

When he opened the vault, the first book he grabbed was William Bradford's bible. He then placed it in my hands. He then placed a printing of the Tyndale translation of the Bible, Maria Antoinette's bible, and a page of the Bible from the original Gutenberg press. He then told me that I was carrying a couple million dollars of rare books. Reid then grabbed a few other smaller books and explained that he was carrying eight million dollars of books.

He allowed me to take some photos and hold some of the rare books. Truly an amazing once in a lifetime experience.
